Update

Wow, it's been a busy season and difficult to get to the blog. None the less, we've had some interesting chapter meetings.

Betty MacKune-Karrer came in the fall and talked about her career and the future of MFT. It was a very interesting time and we all left feeling like we had a greater understanding of ourselves and our profession.

Coming up on Friday January 29 at 5pm, Dr. Tom Todd will talk about his experiences and work as a supervisor. This meeting will take place at the Adler School of Psychology 65 E. Wacker Place, Suite 2100, Chicago IL 60601.

Please RSVP to me at jhetherington.lmft@gmail.com if you're planning on attending. It should be an interesting talk and a great chance to meet new colleagues and see what is happening at the Adler School.

Planning for the Fall Meeting is Underway

It has been a cool summer, which feels good to a lot of Northerners. For the IAMFT Chicago Chapter it has been a time of reflection.

We're looking for your input and ideas for next year's meetings. Please send any ideas to Josh Hetheirngton at jhetherington.lmft@gmail.com

This year we had a very exciting first meeting in the late fall that helped organize our ideas and give us some direction. This was followed by an enthusiastic and stimulating presentation by Dr. Mudita Rastogi. In the spring we had an informative presentation by David Cook detailing the complexities of licensure in Illinois.

Some possible ideas for the next meeting are:
-Peer consultation
-another presenter
-a legislative update
-starting a book/journal group

We're excited to make the Chicago Chapter a useful resource to all MFT's in the area so please, don't hesitate to reach out and let us know what your thoughts are.

New Blog Feature

Hi MFT's. We've added a handy link connector to our blog. So far, we've only got one link on there. Guess where it takes you? That's right, the Family Institute!

You too can become part of the fantastic new link section. Just leave a comment with your idea for a helpful link and the Chicago Chapter team will check it out and post it- as long as it's appropriate.

Don't forget our upcoming meeting Friday, May 22 at Flourish Studio in Lakeview. See you there.

Interested in EFT?

Hi everyone, one of our members has put out the word that she wants to start up work book group focused on EFT. Here is her post:

Do you know any other MFTs in the N. Chicago/ Evanston area that would be interested in consulting and going through the "Becoming an Emotionally Focused therapist workbook"? I would love to meet once or twice a month to discuss. I have plenty of room to meet at the Counseling Center in Evanston. Please, e-mail me at jparsons2@sbcglobal.net if interested.

Get in touch with her by email if you want to participate.

Also, Sue Johnson will be back this October to the Family Institute's Alumni Conference. It is a good chance to ask all the questions you were unable to ask, or hadn't thought of at the IAMFT conference. See you there.

Next Meeting- Licensure!!!

I hope everyone is preparing for the warmer weather that is just around the corner. Of course here in Chicago we have pretty big corners.

Dave Cook, a member of the State Licensing Committee, and a long time IAMFT participant, will present to our group on licensing issues in Illinois. Anyone who has questions regarding the process can come to get questions answered. This talk will provide a CEU for $10.

We will also discuss the committees as they now stand and what these committees are up to.

Please RSVP to Debra Steele if you're planning on coming.

IAMFT Conference worth it!

This year's IAMFT conference was truly a worthwhile event. I was able to attend Dr. Sue Johnson's Saturday presentation and I came away with some very usable ideas. Not only did she present her material in an entertaining manner, she was also able to discuss some fine points of the model and the techniques used in it. At times she was a bit disorgainzed, but she made up for it with her charm. I hope that you were able to attend and get something out of it all.

IAMFT Conference Brochures are out

The IAMFT Conference is quickly approaching. The brochure is ready and can be viewed as a pdf. If you're looking at this blog then you have likely already gotten a look at the brochure from the email sent out by Derek Ball, David Van Dyke and Curt Keller.

If you haven't gotten the email, then please contact Derek DEREK968@aol.com for a copy of the brochure. It sounds like a wonderful conference with Susan Johnson and John Rolland key-noting.

I was unable to download the pdf to the blog. If you know how to do this, don't hesitate to contact me so I can get it on here. Thanks. -Josh

Happy New Year

Well the holiday season is over and, if you're like me, you're back at work making the best of it. Maybe that's a bit too down. Hopefully, you're looking at the new year and seeing all the potential for greatness and opportunities. You're shoving the gray, cold, snowy environment out of your conciousness and you're reminding yourself of all the great things that Chicago has to offer. Maybe there will be some cross country skiing? Or a trip to the mighty Wilmott Mountain? Maybe you're paying attention to the Cubs off season trades and realize that we've just acquired Milton Bradley, and lost Mark DeRosa? Maybe it's not sports, but a trip to the Garfield Conservatory that will keep you afloat? Whatever it is, take care of yourself and you'll do a better job of taking care of your clients.

At any rate, the IAMFT Chicago Chapter has some offerings for the winter. Come and see Mudita Rastogi at our February meeting. She'll present on her new book. That is something stimulating to look forward to.

Blogs often remind me of when I was a college DJ and had no idea if anyone was actually listening. Please feel free to leave comments. It's a nice way to connect and feel like you're part of a community. I look forward to seeing you all at the February meeting.

-Josh
